What better way to spend a Tuesday evening than in the company of the impassioned vocals and emotive piano chords of the delightful Mr. Tom Odell?

Live accompaniment to Burberry's AW13 Womenswear runway show in February and winner of the Brit Award's Critic's Choice in the same month, 2013 has started off pretty well for this 22 year old. He certainly needed no introductions as he charged onto the stage, bottle of Jameson in hand, falling in front of the piano with a quick nod to the audience before embarking on a powerful performance of 'Grow Old With Me'.  'Another Love' was an obvious crowd shaker but nothing was quite as moving as 'Can't Pretend.'

The crowd was mixed - screaming girls thrown in with middle aged Camden locals and men in their early twenties. Yet all came together as Tom fervently sang, accompanied by a double bass, drums and an acoustic guitar. The choruses were rousing, the emotion was raw, the anger and the sweetness so beautifully intertwined. The (Ding)walls closed in on themselves as the audience found themselves entirely captivated by his soulful voice.

Many of the people standing in that room knew (as I suspect Tom did himself) that this was a very special gig. Organised before his very recent industry recognition and consequent exposure, I don't believe we will see Tom playing another intimate gig of this nature in a year's time.

late at the british library | fashion flashback

I trotted down to the British Library last night for a colourful night of fashion. Set amongst the impressive walls of the iconic library, the Fashion History and Theory students from Central Saint Martin's curated an evening inspired by material held within the library's collections. Against the sounds of Princess Julia and Jeffrey Hinton, people mingled amongst the workshops, book stalls, portrait sessions, make up presentations, talks and Andy Warhol inspired photo booth. The evening was topped by the fashion show - a collaboration with the CSM design students who each designed a dress on 'Tyvek', a synthetic material typically used to protect archive clothes from decay.
